Excuse me, it is not that easy!

Peace be upon you :)

Well, cakap senang lah. You are not even in our shoes. After a 4 years bachelor program, we have to register into Royal Institute of Surveyors Malaysia for another 2 years program before we are entitled as and can be called A QUANTITY SURVEYOR atau lagi up sikit Construction Economist. There are actually 6 years of studying! Takdelah terkejut sangat kan. But, more than half had failed the 2 years program. Is it sounds so easy to you? Even, if we are taking Masters and Phd, we are still required to register into RISM. Our work is 100% based on experience.

Because of that, most of the fresh graduates, starting salary will never exceeds RM1600. That's the highest. But if you have the quality and experience, you definitely can ask for more.

We are lucky enough because our lecturer is one of the board members of Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia which he is about to retire soon. He examined our examination paper, not only him, but also all the members of the Board. Same goes with our assignments. It is not easy I tell you. Jadi, siapa yang dapat 4 flat tu, memang dorang power and deserved it. Yes, our work only used simple mathematics and it is just the SAME AS YOUR COURSE. So please la, jangan nak pandai pandai cakap QS ni senang. Korang pun bukannya belajar calculus or differential equations like those engineers.

That 'simple mathematics' is called 'Measurement' of construction components okay. This Measurement is a multi-disciplinary subject supported by numerical PROFICIENCY *pro okay pro :P* and construction knowledge. Emphasis is also placed on training to improve the technical, management and personal development skills. This provides the opportunity to absorb a wider range of knowledge which is the ability to adapt to various conditions, and to solve problems creatively and innovatively. Duhhhh~ :P

We have to learn about most of the field in Construction Industry. We have to do Costing, Tender and Contract. If you lose focus, you will definitely drown away. It is the toughest job in construction industry. Indeed. So please, show your respect to us. We actually just allow you to feel important in the industry. We have the power to choose the contractor and consult the clients also the power to cheat your money. HAHA Ah well, tu memang kerja tipikal sebagai QS.

But, not all of you know that we are requiring more specialised knowledge in offering advice on property taxation. Other than that, advising on the maintenance costs of specific building. A lot to know, learn and practice.
